Singapore Night Safari

This is from an email I sent to my family back in September 2009.  I’ve been cleaning out my work email and came across similar updates from my travels.  They brought back many fun memories!

Here are some pictures from the Singapore Night Safari, which was a lot of fun.  If you ever have the opportunity to visit Singapore, this should be at the top of the list of your things to do!

First, they had people doing “tribal dances” near the entrance.  I didn’t get any good pictures and I missed getting pictures of the flame throwing, but here are some of my best:

Not very good, huh?  Well, after that I went to the “Creatures of the Night” show, which was very impressive:

This was our emcee.  She did an excellent job – very funny, kind of insulting to the volunteers.  Here are some pictures of the animals:

A wolf:

A spotted hyena:

Something like a mongoose (sitting on the woman’s shoulder).  It was supposed to do a trick of finding which of the kids’ fists had a grape in it, but it was being too aggressive:

A cerval that ran out, dug something out the log, then ran back off the stage:

The ran around the theater claiming they’d lost an animal and found this anaconda in a container in the steps.  Then they asked for a volunteer, requesting that it be a “macho man”. Then they said the snake really like the guy, and the reason was because it was female and liked manly men.  I don’t think this guy was too excited about the prospects:

Then they had a raccoon come out and dig in the trashcan, and then some otters came out to recycle the trash (it was very environmentally focused):

That’s all my pictures of the animals.  After the show, I rode the tram around the park, but since you can’t take pictures with a flash, none of my pictures turned out as anything more than a black box.  Afterwards, I went to the area around the stores and paid for ten minutes to put my feet into a tank full of fish.  Apparently, the fish eat your dead skin cells so it’s a form of natural exfoliation.  It really tickled at times.

So, this is me on my (technically) 28th birthday.  I’m looking forward to really celebrating my birthday next weekend with you, hubby!
